sleep tight uncle bill xxxxx

I have fond memories of spending time at the Colless's in Pymble, around the pool and barbecue. Their door was open to masses of Nigel and Lou's friends, and Bill and June provided a happy, welcoming and vibrant setting. As a new arrival in Sydney at the time, I thoroughly enjoyed these gatherings of family and friends as a proxy for my own way back in the United States. I can say that most of my best Australian friendships are a result of "chin-wagging" around the Colless's. Even though I am back in the US, I remember those days like they were yesterday. It was with great sadness that I heard of Bill's passing. I saw him on Skype video chat back in October with his impish grin, beer in hand, and ready wisecrack. My heart goes out to June, Nigel, Lou and all the family at this sad moment.

I have known Bill Colless for forty years, during that time I have found Bill to be a loving husband and father. In his professional life as a Consulting Engineer, Bill was a fair, meticulous and thorough Engineer, pushing the boundaries to achieve the best results. As an Administrator of large projects he was totally in control of complex issues which he handled with ease. He was sympathetic to office and field staff issues carefully achieving the best outcome for the individual. I miss the friendly business lunches that we used to have with John Bolt and Ian MacFarlane.
Personally, Bill and June have played a wonderful part in the raising of our children in the early days, Having many picnics and socializing together. My wife and I had dinner with Bill and June in September and Bill had great plans for the future, it is extremely sad that he was unable to fulfil those dreams.
