I never knew Nathan - I served in the military in a different time however I do remember when his life was taken. It was a sad day.
This past November 11th, I had the honour of meeting Nathan's father, Michael, at the Armoury in Calgary. I enjoyed a very long chat - long enough to close down both the Jr Ranks and Sr. NCO's Mess. I got to know Nathan a little more - Canada has lost one the finest men that walk her ground.
My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Nathan's family as the go on with out him. Lest we forget...

I WOULD LIKE TO PRISE THE BOY'S & GIRLS THAT SERVE OUR COUNTRY. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

RIP Buddy, It was 2 years ago today. I'm still carrying on the good fight.

I didn't know the corporal but I found this today on this site and was moved by the thought of his--and his family's--sacrifice.
God bles the men and women who fight to protect us.

Condolences to Nathans family. You should be very proud of him as I am sure you are. Why on earth these brave young boys and girls have to go out there in the first place is beyond me. Afghanistan and other places such as this will never change, it is a way of life to their people to kill and maim. Bring these brave boys and girls home to UK and USA, they should not be in the line of fire. Gos bless nathan.

We just returned from the corner of Bay and Grosvenor in downtown Toronto where we watched as the procession passed bringing home a hero. We took time from work day to go pay tribute to a Brave Canadian who laid down his life in support of freedom far from his home. I only wish I could do more to comfort those who knew this young man, but let your comfort be that he did what he did because he loved his job and was willing to fight tyranny worldwide. Nathan makes me proud to be a Canadian and I can hold my head high anywhere in the world.
We honour your sacrifice to your country, and your memory. Thank you.

Nathan, your dedication for your country and what your job entailed will long be remembered, you were a fine young man and soldier who believed in what he was doing and you gave everything to try to make a difference in a war torn foreign country. My son, a soldier, was there with you when this happened and he feels the lost of his comrade. God Bless!

My heart is broken again by the news of another loved son in the world that sacrificed his life for the peace and good of all. My son is currently training in special forces with Canadian Military and may be deployed with in weeks or months. I understand the training and commitment that these fine soldiers undergo, and therefore, know the type of young man Nathan was and always will be. Nathan's and other's sacrifices compel me more than ever, and hopefully many others, to carry on peace keeping ideals in any shape or form - and is a keen reminder to live life to it's fullest. Your light shines on Nathan.

Nathan, You gave your life on the great adventure. Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed. You kept the faith. Tim

While other 24-year-old men from Calgary were enjoying themselves at the Stampede this summer, Cpl. Nathan Hornburg lost his life in Afghanistan. It is amazing to hear about someone so young take on the responsibilities that Hornburg did. Let's take time to honor this young man who died for his country and for his beliefs.

I know that this comment is way late, but one year after the fact, your ignorance still bugs me. 1) Nathan wasn't killed during Stampede, it was 2 months after. 2) Nathan would have been the first guy to encourage people to enjoy themselves, be it Stampede, sitting around the campfire, or hanging out at the bar. He was a hero, no doubt about that, but he was no martyr or killjoy.

Cpl. Hornburg was one brave man fighting for what he believed in. He deserves our admiration and praise. My heart goes out to his family at this sad time.
