In learning this evening, August 10th, of the death of Reg Boys, I was told that he basically gave in after the death of his lovely Gwen some six weeks earlier. A double shock. I had seen Reg on Anzac Day, proud, upright, cheeky and full of great spirit. I had spoken with Gwen a few days before that. Ironically, I was looking at a photo of the two of them that I had taken at their house in 1997, just after I had met them , and when I was doing research on a Bomber Command project. They were just wonderful folk - and we remained good friends since then. Gwen always finished a conversation with an expression of her love for Reg, and how "I love him as much today as I did when we first married". What price we put on such a relatonship. Their affection and commitment to each other was as profound as it was clear, and I shall cherish the memory of them both. Anzac Day will be minus a marching warrior, and the woman waiting for him at home. Geoffrey Nottage
