Uncle John (and Aunty Maria) were a big part of my childhood being 'best friends' of my parents. I remember us being soooo... excited on weekends because if we were not visiting the Gillespies then they would be visiting us. As a child there were many memories and the majority of them included the Gillespie family. Cracker night at Hunters Hill when all the crackers caught fire and went up in one big big bang under the jacaranda tree, being taken after dark to see Santa in his sleigh appear on some roof somewhere, numerous picnics and many 'sleepovers' where Aunty Maria would serenade us to sleep with one of her many magical songs. Uncle John has always kept in touch with me and we had many a chat about Toowoomba and surrounds after I moved here seven years ago. His recollections of Glengallen Homestead were so interesting. He loved travelling too and particularly loved his trip to the NT when I was in Nhulunbuy some years ago. I feel so very saddened to know that he has left us for now but I bet he, Maria, Judy, Bruce and even Cecil are having a ball wherever they are! I will be present in prayers and thoughts tomorrow because I am unable to travel to Sydney at the moment. Andrew will be there though. Farewell Uncle John and thank you for being there when I was little and in latter years after I lost my Sister, both parents and Cecil - you were sort of the last link I had with them and how you loved to recall those fabulous days many years ago. Your phone call a few months ago after I lost Michael was so comforting too - just to know someone cares means so much. I was glad you slipped away quietly and I know that is how you would have wanted it - a dignifed exit for a true gentleman and exceptional human being. My love goes with you and my thoughts are with your family left behind who will miss you always and love you forever. Virginia (Gee Jar)
