What memory? There were hundredsof memories I have of you and I think of them so often. I only WISH I could remember all the fun times we had...you know, the crazy Irish we both had in us, which usually involved "a nip o' the pure". I would love nothing more than to go back to that time again when we were laughing hysterically, you teaching me how to stepdance...but now it only happens in my dreams. And in my dreams, My sweet Mary...WE ARE ALWAYS LAUGHING, with me doing a pathetic jig or reel. I think of you always...especially when I'm feeling down and need a good laugh. You're my "Go to Girl" for that laugh and that pick me up...and you ALWAYS will be. Love you, miss you, thin of you more than you would ever believe (Bobby, Dillon, and Keeley, too). You will forever be in my heart. Heavenly love and Shamrock kisses....Kath. You are my angel and I will always hold you close to me in my thoughts, memories, and prayers. God sure broke the mold when he created you and I can't help but wonder what you are doing right now in Heaven as we speak (because I KNOW you are listening) and telling us all that you are ok. Love you always, nutty girlfriend!!!

Cannot believe a year has passed. Seems like just yesterday I could hear Mary calling me out of a crowd, Hey No No!!! I remember the time when Mary and all of us were at a class preparing for Worlds and Michael would be killing us with the teams. Yeah it was our first world team medal win in Dun Laoighre with our choreography "The Irish Lace". Still hear mary screaming ""my balls are killing me" cause we all had a long sweating, balls of feet killing class Mary would only hope to be thrown out of class because she knew that we would win the team as long as Mike got mad enough to throw us out before the competition! She was superstitious about that!! Wow so many memories and great times.Your still screaming to us Mary and we will always keep you dancing in our hearts with our "Balls Killing"" hahahaha!! Love and miss you sooooo much Mary Mac Love and prayers to Breda Johnny Ann Clare Sean Bobby Dillon & Keeley at this time & cherish those happy smiling times with Mary.

This year my daughter dances with you in her heart and this one is for the Red Heads!

My first memory is dancing with Mary in some old church about 20 years ago. For the subsuquent 15 years I danced with her, going back and forth between regular dance, karate, and irish dance. Everytime I came back she would just look at me and say, I knew you would be back someday. Even to this day I look at Mary as someone who truely shaped my life. I have never met a more genuine person in my life and she will truly be missed forever. Dance today, sleep tomorrow Love you Katie Scanlon

I remember walking into my first Irish step class when it was back at the church. I was so nervous and had no clue what I was supposed to do. Mary came over to me helped me tie my shoes, and had a great huge smile across her face!!! She was always a loving, smiling, cheerful person. I will never forget her and all that I have learned from her. May you rest in peace Mary <333

I only knew Mary Mac for 5 years but would have to say It feel's like I've know her all my life. When I was Co. Chairing the National in Nashville in 2008 Mary was the one who often kept me sane and also from wanting to blow my top off at times. My main memory of Mary is side stage at the National ready for results. We had so much fun each night and she kept us all happy. I am so glad to have had mary as part of my life and will never forget her. I envy the people who knew her for so much longer than I did. I don't think New England will ever be the same without her. Rest Mary and continue to keep us all together as friends. Philip

The Bronx Irish are a close clan even if you move to Massachusetts. Mary and I both belonged to this group. When I returned from my dad's NY funeral Mary had already heard through her family that my dad had passed away. When I brought Nora to her first class after his death Mary took a moment to offer her condolences. I was so touched that her and her family took the time to pass on the news and offer me some comfort at a difficult time. We were fairly new to the school and this was just so unexpected. Since then I have learned that this was typical of Mary. She had the ability to reach out and touch others. I had never seen the practice of carring the deceased on the shoulders of their loved ones until I attended my Aunt's funeral in Leitrim. At Mary's funeral her family also hoisted the casket on to their shoulders and also carried her out of the church. An Irish tradition and tribute so well deserved. I feel fortuante that my daughter Nora and I had the opportunity to know Mary. She was such an inspiration on how to live life. I pray that her family and friends find comfort in that she is at peace at last.

I will miss your laugh, your smile, and the way we could talk about everything and anything for hours. I will miss our late nights and the way you took an extra few minutes to make everyone you met feel so special. I will miss your accent and our inside jokes. I will miss your great stories and the way you were always looking for fun. I will miss the way you had more energy then anyone all day long and the fact that nobody would have ever known you were not feeling well. Your friendship meant the world to me and I feel like we only just got started. Our car ride to the World in Philadelphia will live with me forever. Miss Mary Mac was the real deal and New England will never be the same....

My Memory of Mary will always be of a person who truely appreciated the life and time that she had while she was here. She lived by the rule "don't sweat the small stuff". Many people try to live this way unsuccessfully but Mary seemed to live by this rule effortlessly. I admire Mary in many unspoken ways but thank her for the impact that she continues to make on my life. I will always remember Mary at the New London Feis as a kid. She was a great dancer and she was one we will always remember. With the most heartfelt sympathies I pray for Mary's family. Her parents were good friends with my parents. They knew how to dance the heck out of it and have a good time. A kitchen racket was always a good time, even if it was in a tent or on a feis stage at the end of a long day feising. I hope my icon brought a smile to your face Mary. I know what you are saying and I am laughing right here with you. Miss you. Love Liam

I too have known the McInerney family for most of my life and Mary Mac was a constant presence in the dance world as I was growing up. Traveling to the various Feisanna throughout the summer with my sister Deirdre, we were always sure to meet up with the McInerney clan! Mr. & Mrs. Mac are a class act and Mary seemed to be the funniest and most outgoing of them all. I am so proud of her accomplishments as a teacher, mother and friend and I truly cannot comprehend that she is gone. Her Memorial was such a beautiful tribute to the loving and kind woman that she was. I only hope that she was able to see and feel the the love of all those that she left behind. As her sister said to me at the wake, Mary and Deirdre are surely dancing together in Heaven! My prayers are with Mary's children and husband. Mary, you will NEVER be forgotten.

It is apparent that everyone who met Mary mac recognized immediately her fun loving spirit, her love of life, her family & her Irish heritage. What impressed me the most about Mary Mac is her courage in the face of adversity. i am still awed by that courage, strength & her love of life & family. I have known Mary Mac & family for approximately 30 years. She had a great supportive family whom she loved dearly. New England Irish dancing community has lost a shining star, the star of good-will. God Bless the Zona & McInerney families. We will keep you in our prayers. Sheila, Shannon and Shamrock School, CT

Mary was a wonderful teacher, making step dancing fun for my daughter, Liz. It didn't matter if you were the best dancer in the room or the clumsiest, Mary loved all her dancers. We we will always be grateful to her for helping a shy little girl be brave enough to perform on stage. Our love and prayers are with Dillon, Keeley, Bob, Ann Clare, Sean, John and Bridget and all those who loved and will miss Mary deeply. Ginny

Mary was such an amazing woman. I have so many wonderful memories of her at Burncoat sporting events cheering on her sister Clare as she coached softball. I was always so in awe of the relationship the McInerney's had; always a true team who loved and supported eachother in whatever they were doing. My favorite memory of Mary will be one I will never forget. It was my daughter Maggie's first step dancing performance at the Irish festival this past March. I remember being so proud of Maggie when she stepped out on stage. I was nervous for how she would do in front of the crowd. Mary led her to the front when it was her turn and then softly counted for her while she danced her little heart out. I remember thinking how could she be nervous with such a strong presence right by her side. Thank you Mary. We love you. Love Jane and Maggie Dowd

I did not know Mary very well, but she always seemed so cheerful & fun to be around whenever I saw her at competitions. One time I was working at a feis and we were slightly short-staffed in the feis room, and she jumped right up without being asked and helped us out with the beginners. Clearly she loved teaching dancing very much, and her school is a reflection of that fact. I will keep Mary's family, friends and students in my prayers.

My Kathryn (Kate) adored Mary. Kate couldn't wait to go to class. Mary personality was so down to earth and brought the best out in Kate. Kate and I will miss her so much. Kate was so excited to move up to team. I don't know if Kate will continue or not because more than dancing it was being with Mary she loved more. My deepest sympathies to the entire family. It is hard to see through my tears but your Wife, Mom, Daughter, Sister and Friend was such a huge source of Energy, Love and Life. Such a profound loss to all of us on earth and a glorious addition to Heaven. There are no words to for such a brillant light burning out. I pray you all find peace and can one day smile and laugh when you speak of Miss Mary and the pain eases soon because she would want that. Love and Sympathies Davis' Kathryn and Tammy Davis.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to Mary's husband, children and family. We have been part of the Irish dance world for almost 9 years at Harney Academy. We have many friends who dance for Mary. Our most vivid memory of Mary is through their sharing; "she is so caring, loving, a wonderful teacher. Begin part of her school is like being part of a family." We will keep Mary's family in our daily prayers and ask our Blessed Mother to be with all of them in a very special way.

Mary Mac has touched many hearts and will never be forgotten. She loved every one of her dancers as if they were her own children. Mary always had a way to make me laugh. I remember my first novice feis, I was on stage and the judge was not there yet so we were all standing in line waiting. Mary Mac came into the gym and sat down right next to my mom and they began to talk. I looked over at Mary and she was pointing to her ring, i did not know what she was trying to say so I just stood there. Next thing is Mary was pointing to my mom's ring, I was still confused but Mary cleared that up for me by yelling diamond out to me on stage, which means to cross your feet while you are standing in line waiting. The three of us started to laugh, which calmed my nerves. I will never forget that day because I did so well; I got two 1st place medals and one 3rd place medal. From that day on Mary always used diamond as our secret code. We will all Miss Mary Mac dearly and she will always be dancing in our hearts. The McInerney/Zona family will always be in my prayers. Mary Mac is the reason why I am in prelium; she has worked with me for all these years. I never minded when Mary would yell at me because I know she only yelled because she wanted the best for me. Mary Mac was a dance teacher and a basketball coach at the same time because she would always yell out to us what we need to fix or what to do next. I love Mary Mac and I thank her for all the love and support she has given me and even though she is not will here physically, she will always give me love and support from heaven

Mary touched so many peoples hearts. She was truly a role-model to all of her dancers. I will never forget the time when Mary was driving Keeley and I to a show. Mary was steering with her knees because she was writing down the beats for the show, drinking her coffee, and talking on the phone. Meanwhile, going 80mhp!! Mary inspired me to always do my best and to work hard to reach my goals. Mary will be missed by so many people. My heart goes out to Mary's family and dancers. I love you Mary and I will never forget you!

I remember that Tessa's first outside feis did not go well. The judge chastized her for not knowing the steps while on stage in front of everyone. She was devestated and didn't want to ever go on again. She had only just turned 6 years old. Mary took care of it. We signed her up for the next feis. Mary came to our stage when it was time to go on. She took Tessa to the back of the room and went over the steps with her. Then she stayed and watched her throughout her turn on stage. Tessa kept her eyes fixed on Mary the whole time and Mary cheered her on giving her approval. Tessa did well. I remember her smile after she danced. She was just beaming with pride up there. She placed second and after that she had the confidence to go on to more feisanna. But...after every feis performance, right up to this last school feis, we have always had to search to find Mary in the crowd so that the girls could tell her how they did. My girls always needed that reassurance and support from Mary that they couldn't get fom Mom (who knows nothing about Irish Dance). It will be hard for them to not have that. But, Mary would want them to be strong. We know that she is still watching and cheering them (and all of the other dancers) on from heaven. She will always be with them. God Bless you Mary. We are so lucky to have had you touch our lives. My heart goes out to the entire McInerney/Zona Clan.

Since Mary's death, a song has been playing in my head and I think the lyrics are so appropriate for a woman who affected so many people in such a short time. My heart goes out to Mary's husband and children and to the McInerney family. You are in my prayers. Annie (Connolly) Stenstrom From "For Good" from the musical "Wicked" I've heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led To those who help us most to grow If we let them And we help them in return Well, I don't know if I believe that's true But I know I'm who I am today Because I knew you Like a comet pulled from orbit As it passes a sun Like a stream that meets a boulder Halfway through the wood Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you I have been changed for good It well may be That we will never meet again In this lifetime So let me say before we part So much of me Is made of what I learned from you You'll be with me Like a handprint on my heart And now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine By being my friend...

Mary's infectious laughter and love of life will live on forever with everyone she ever met. I was one of Mary Mac's many friends she met when she first moved to Worcester. What fun we had through high school- there are too many memories to choose just one, but I always think of her whenever I see a mouthguard!. I loved watching the Macs practicing in the basement and was truly amazed by their talent. She gave so much love and happiness and enjoyed every day. She loved her family and my thoughts and prayers are with all of Mary's family. I am glad she is not suffering anymore and up in heaven making everyone happier up there, I am sure. I think this prayer fits Mary- she is no longer suffering and is at peace - God takes the best and that was Mary. God looked around his Garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain. And knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw your path was difficult, he closed your tired eyes, He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly. When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain, We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again. You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide, You live on through your children, you're always by our side. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you on the day God called you home Love, Cathy Doherty

I came to Mary as an older dancer looking to get back in shape, she welcomed me with open arms. I have never met someone so optimistic and encouraging and this friendliness was reflected in all of the MacInerney Dancer's I met, her personality was contageous, you could only be happy when around her. I am so happy to have gotten the chance to have danced under Mary for even a little while and I wil be a better person for it for the rest of my life. Herself, her family, and her dancers are in my prayers and in my heart.

My heart goes out to the McInereney and Zona families and to all her dancers. I look forward to seeing Keely and all the McInerney dancers continue dancing as a tribute to her. I hope we can all have a few drinks some day in the hospitality room upstairs again. I know you'll have the party started Mary Mac!

I was a late comer to Irish dance; I started at age 13 after a fellow ballet dancer brought me to a class. This was in New York. When I moved to Massachusetts, I started with Mary. Because of how late I started, there's only so far I can realistically get in competition, but Mary kept me dancing for the fun and excitement of it. One of the admirable things about Mary as a dance teacher was that she cared deeply about each dancer, regardless of level or age. It was a wonderful display of character. I'd walk in and she'd say cheerily, "Hi Mare!" as if we'd been close our whole lives. I can still hear it. In 2006 I was part of a four hand at the Oireachtas and had a blast, and I'm so grateful to Mary for giving me that opportunity. Now I'm 20 and a student at Assumption College, Mary's Alma Mater, and I will always keep dancing. Because I knew Mary, nothing could take the joy out of dancing for me. I keep Mary's friends and family in my thoughts and prayers.

I first met you were my sister's Rosie's friend. You graduated from Burncoat High School with her. I remember you used to come bounding down the stairs from sleeping over heading to the kitchen fo breakfast. You would give me a big " hi Susie " everytime I saw you. Mom said you were at the Russell house so much you could have been her 9th daughter. How can we forget the big irish grin and that infectious laugh. You two were two peas in a pod and such close friends. All of us loved you . We all loved to watch you dance. You danced with the kids, the teens and you danced with the champs. You were the best of the best! You had so many many friends, you will never be forgotten. A wonderul mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend and a courgeous girl who would not give up. We salute you Mary Mac . We will pray for you and your family that God keeps watch over them every day. Your are now at Peace. Lovingly, Susie Russell

I danced with Mary from the ages of 11 through 18 (I'm not 25) but my very first memory of Mary was seeing her onstage herself some years prior. This was back in the earlier days when both Mary and Clare would take the stage themselves and Mary would wear her red solo dress. They came to perform at my church's St. Paddy's dinner and I never would have thought that one day would I not only be dancing under Mary's tutelage, but eventually becoming an assistant teacher myself! Taking Irish step with Mary were some of the happiest times of my life and I have no doubt in my mind that it helped me to become the person I am today. I only have the opportunity to dance every once and awhile now but in my years since high school and college I have kept my shoes with me the entire time. I will miss Mary terribly but I want to thank her for being such an amazing person and I am so lucky to have had her in my life.

We just heard of Mary's passing. We were away and missed the memorial. I so wish that we could have attended. My girls saw the MaryMac Irish Dancers at the Irish Festival in Sutton in 2005 and were awestruck. They wanted to do that too. So, that fall, when Bridget was 5 and Tessa was 4, they began to dance with Mary. She always made them feel as if they were the best dancers in the world, even at ages 4 & 5. She made them feel special. I think that she made all of the girls feel special. She was able to instill a special level of self confidence in them that they will hold onto forever. She was a special person who touched a lot of people in a very positive way. We will miss her tremendously and remember her always. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary and her family.

HI there. Upon hearing the news about Marythe Irish Dance workld has lost a great teacher. My cousin took thru McInerney Irish dance. Being a retired dancer, (O'Shea Chaplin) and whose daughters are involved in dance at The Bracken School of Irish Dance in Salisbury, MA, this is a great loss and will most certainly be felt in the Irish Dance World. Peace be with you and I think Mary will be up there teaching the jig-hornpipe etc etc to all the angels in heaven. Rest in peace Mary..... - Heather Donahue LaRocque

I had the privilege to get to know Mary and all "the Macs" when we grew up in the same neighborhood in the Bronx NY during the late 60's and most of the 70's. Mary, Ann and I would go to Irish dancing school together and probably not a weekend went by that I wasn't heading up to Creston or them down to Walton so that we could ride our bikes, play stickball and or hit off the point. Then it came time for me to learn "double dutch" and Mary wouldn't let me give up til I mastered it! She was even a teacher back then. I would come to learn that the Mac's were moving to a town called Worcester. Mary would be the one to reinforce that I shouldn't worry as I would come up to visit them often and go swimming in their pool! As I watched the moving truck and Johnny's chevy nova leave that day I was in a happy place as I knew even though there would be distance between us that the bond of friendship was so strong that it would go on forever My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mac's and the Zona's at this very difficult time and know that I hold Mary close to my heart always. Signed Sheila "P" as she would like to call me!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Zona and Mac familys. Mary Mac was one in a million. Always smiling and she always saw the brighter side of things. The Mac famiy and my family have been good family friends for over 30 years now. Mary was a great lady with a super supportive family. We got to know Mary and her parents when they were leaving New Haven feis many years ago and they didnt know where the motor way was to get back to MA so they decided to follow a local car with a Ct licence plate. Unfortunately for them we ony lived a few blocks away from the feis and the macs followed us directly home to our street and thats how the friendship started and blossomed over the years. That always makes me smile when i think of Mary and the Macs. Lots of good memories. Mary , we love you and will keep you and your family in our prayers and thoughs. God bless. Jim Murrihy

My daughter is one of Mary's dancers, and her name is Bridget, like so many other Irish dancers in the McInerney school. One day, Mary took Bridget aside and said, "Bridge, I have a funny story. I like your name--it's my middle name, you know." Then Mary said that when she was a girl, she used to tell people that the "B" in Mary B. McInerney stood for "Beth," because she didn't like the name Bridget. And she said "The worst part of it is, my mother would be standing right there, and my mother's name is Bridget! I was named for her!" We all had a good laugh. Mary had the Irish knack for story-telling. We will miss her, but we know that God must want to learn a new hornpipe, and he wanted the best teacher.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Mary Mac several years ago at the New England Oireachtas. She struck me as a vivacious and yet down to earth woman; quick witted, with a great sense of humor, and a big heart. Having suffered the loss of my first dancing teacher, MaryAnn Griffith, when I was young, my heart goes out to her students and their families. But the wonderful thing about a good teacher is that the lessons they teach you are yours to keep forever. Mary will live on through the gifts she shared with her students. My condolences to her family and friends.

I started dancing when i was about 4 and fell in love with it right away. Mary was an amazing teacher and i will never forget her. When i decided to quit 3 years ago, it was a mistake that i regret often. Mary was always there to cheer on all of the dancers and to help them in any way that she could. Through performing, she has given me the confidence i have today. Thank you Mary and we love you. My heart goes out to Keeley and Dillon, and the rest of the McInerny/Zona family.
