Astro Arena Channel 801 on Malaysia biggest pay TV is Matts legacy, do view it when you are in Malaysia. Matt started it from scratch, renovations, IT and staff. A tough job as he had problems recruiting experienced staff and this was to be Malaysia's first local sports TV channel. Matt had to be a motivator to the local staff and ensure very high quality to meet the stations owners expectations. In short they wanted a local espn channel. Although you left us suddenly we will carry on to ensure that this station will be a shining legacy of your ultimate sacrifice, knowledge and tenacity. God Bless you Matt. we miss you everyday, some times depressed that we cant see you, sometimes angry and sad that we didnt take care of your health. Malaysia lost a great Aussie CEO whose contribution will live forever at Channel 801 on Astro. RIP

I remember Matt when he started at Channel 10, always confident he was 'going somewhere'. What an understatement. He was a fabulous person , and a dedicated friend. We remember how he took the reigns at Laddie's funeral, and helped to named "World Laddie Day'. Although I haven't seen her for years, Matt's mum was my baby health sister when my son was born, and without her love and support, the unknown of having a baby would have been much much harder. Later that child would go on to support Sam in his own fight. I often tell of Matt, and his Mum and they are a mojor part of my life and always will be. Much love to all of Matt's family, you can be proud of the son, husband and father that Matt will always be.

Very sad to hear about Matthew. A great and loyal friend who was always high on life and full of fun. At Channel 10 he was so popular because he was funny, loyal, good at what he did. And, he was always willing to have lunch at No Names or the Aussie Youth and was everyone's choice for a social companion. My thoughts and love go to his wife and boys, working life and to have shared so much laughter and fun with a very decent person. Bless you Matty

Matt always cheerful always smiling in the hot malaysian weather, always missing his family matt will miss you so much but the bible tells me not to be hopeless as we will meet again

I am so humbled by matts friendliness when i saw him to signup a contract for sport news in malaysia for the sports channel he was setting up, he proudly talked about his wife and kids in australia and took me for a tour of the half completed office he was working in and walked me all the way out of the building, i know you are with your creator who loved you more, god bless you beloved matt my best clientt

Was very shocked to hear the news of Matt's passing, it seems the best ones are always taken first. Will never forget him as one of the loveliest and easy going people I worked with over the years. My thoughts are with his family especially Karlene and his children, I hope they grow up knowing what a lovely dad they had, he will always be with them I am sure. Please take care of each other xx Andrea Leahy.

I will always remember Matt for his love of life and will always be thankful for his friendship. I'll never forget the time we headed to New Zealand to watch our beloved Wallabies win the Bledisloe in 1998. I'll never forget those good times on the road while covering the golf for Fox Sports, and the day Greg Norman dared to refuse an interview with one of the most popular on course commentators there was! I'll never forget everything you did for me mate.

My memory of Matty....laughter, jokes....just a fun time. The Channel 10 newsroom and the edit suites certainly became aware when Matty walked in.
I used to edit some of his stories and he was a sweety.....I used to tell him he had beautiful eyes. Bless you Matty XXXXX
