Dr Nicholas Packham saw me over the years for persistent health concerns. Remember his wonderful sense of humour and ephemera filled rooms

This man was a monster. In the early 1970's he raped my mother (date rape) and terrorised me as a child. Dr Nicholas Packham's mother begged my mum not to press charges saying his father used to lock him in a dark cupboard when he was a child and that he was extremely disturbed. My mum agreed not to press rape and assault charges at the time. There are almost certainly other victims who have been traumatised by this sexual psychopath over the years. For all the good he ever did as a doctor, there were also terrible secrets which need to be told.

Dr Packham skilfully removed a tumour from my neck in 99 and then I saw him for some years in his inner sanctum at his home until he fully retired. The medical stuff would be quickly dealt with and we'd chat about anything until interrupted by an arriving patient or more likely a realisation an hour had passed and we'd best return to whatever. A thorough and learned gentleman - his humour and humanity a sad loss.

We competed fiercely on the RPAH squash court,he, the honorary consultant and I, the junior resident.I can't remember what we chatted about, perhaps because we didn't.There was a lot of smiling and grunting......Unexpected, unnecessary but unforgetable kindness.
